Safari Secrets: 3 Wild Strategies to Transform Your B2B Marketing
March 2025

Have you ever noticed how life’s most unexpected moments can spark your best ideas? That hit me during my recent trip to South Africa.
After delivering a keynote and workshop with Standard Bank, I went on an adventure—a safari in Kruger National Park.
Turns out, marketing and the wild have more in common than you’d think.
1. Go Where Your Customers Are
On safari, we rode in game cars (called game drives), searching for animals (called sightings). Some days, we got lucky; other times, nothing. But our safari guides always knew where to look—behind trees, in the bushes, or up in the sky.
Ask yourself: Are you showing up where your customers are? Are you using data to track customer intent and gauge their interest? Like expert guides, are you “looking” very closely to spot the opportunities others miss?
2. Communication Unlocks Targeted Outreach
Game drives can feel random, but guides communicate with each other using radios to spot and share sightings. That’s how we saw a cheetah—one of only 150 in 23,000 square kilometers. Without that intel and close collaboration between the guides, we would’ve missed it.
Ask yourself: ABM and targeted outreach work the same way. Throughout your campaigns, are you sharing real-time insights with sales? Are you adjusting content and frequency based on engagements or not? Build your own “radios” system with sales—so you can capture your “cheetah moment.”

3. A Seamless Customer Experience Matters
The lodge I stayed at was intimate—only five huts for 10 guests. Their positioning was clear: small, exclusive, rustic yet elegant.
Every detail from homemade meals to furniture placement, reinforced that experience effortlessly.
Ask yourself: Marketers focus on copy, design, and messaging—but have you optimized every touchpoint? Is your customer journey as seamless as it should be? Sometimes, small tweaks— like backend workflows, copy changes, or image swaps— can make the difference.
